EBV infection of the microvasculature endothelial cells and B cells may be the source of neurotoxicity through the release of inflammatory cytokines (IL‐6, TNF‐α, and IL‐1), free radicals, and viral proteins, which in turn lead to neuronal damage3 and may further result in perivascular inflammation. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is Epstein-Barr virus infection.
