A spectrum of histology, from benign cystadenoma to carcinoma, may be present in a single tumor, and all mucinous ovarian neoplasms share critical oncogenic driver mutations in KRAS and CDKN2A (Hunter et al., 2012, Mackenzie et al., 2015), suggesting that carcinomas represent progression from borderline and adenomatous precursors. This evidence concerns the gene KRAS and carcinoma.
