It was reported that formononetin (7-hydroxy-4′-methoxyisoflavone) had potential to treat diabetic retinopathy by inhibiting the secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in the HIF-1α/VEGF signaling pathway, and reducing the expressions of PHD, HIF-1α and VEGF proteins [111]. Here, HIF1A is linked to diabetic retinopathy.
