TBI can trigger the development of neurodegenerative diseases due to the formation of neurofibrillary tangle (NFT) and amyloid beta peptide (Aβ) plaques, activation of Aβ-containing microglia, increased levels of α-synuclein (a-Syn), amyloid-beta precursor protein (APP), beta-site amyloid precursor protein cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE1), microtubule-associated protein tau (Tau), apolipoprotein E4 (ApoE4), presenilin-1 (PS1), and caspase-3 [9,10]. Here, APP is linked to neurodegenerative disease.
