MMP11 and Insulin resistance: Our data support the idea that “too much of a good thing, harms”, as in MMP11 expression is necessary for glucose homeostasis, since its absence promotes insulin resistance in mice, whereas its overexpression in epithelial cells (Keratin-14 promoter used in MMP11-Tg mice) improves glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, although it alters mitochondria function in adipose tissue to a certain extent through increased oxidative stress.
