SNPs were analyzed in 112 lung cancer patients and 100 healthy controls in association with the MMP-2 and MMP-9 serum concentrations, revealing that specific genotypes appeared to affect both the MMP-2 and MMP-9 concentrations, which may result in an increased lung cancer risk, a more aggressive course of the disease, and poorer patient survival outcomes. The gene discussed is MMP2; the disease is lung carcinoma.
