Elevated Gal-3, together with increased values of N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and C-reactive protein (CRP) were predictive of a very diminished left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), with values even lower than 35%, in patients with newly diagnosed dilated cardiomyopathy, according to Rieth et al. [39]. The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is dilated cardiomyopathy.
