Fine studied the utility of fecal lactoferrin in differentiating patients with chronic diarrhea, including patients with microscopic colitis, celiac disease, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn’s disease and demonstrated the presence of positive fecal lactoferrin in three of the thirty-nine microscopic colitis and celiac disease patients [86]. This evidence concerns the gene LTF and chronic diarrheal disease.
