Low-grade inflammation in obesity leads to a further oversecretion of TNF-α, a proinflammatory cytokine, but it also holds true for other proinflammatory cytokines, including IL-1 (interleukin 1), IL-6 (interleukin 6), NF-κB (nuclear factor kappa B), and CRP (C-reactive protein), which are secreted in excess and which, by acting synergistically with the abnormal adipokines levels, promote insulin resistance [28,39]. The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is obesity disorder.
