IL24 and neoplasm: We have shown that the anticancer effect of IL-24 is mediated by inhibition of translation initiation through eIF2α phosphorylation [47] and inhibition of the eIF4F complex [47,67], subsequently downregulating the synthesis of oncogenic proteins and reducing the overall rate of protein synthesis while preferentially upregulating the expression of tumor-suppressor and proapoptotic proteins [47,67].
