In view of this quest, our study seeks to reveal the possible role for serum and peritoneal concentrations of selected biomarkers, specifically presepsin, procalcitonin, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), high mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB-1) and interleukins (IL-6, -8, -10), in early prediction of sepsis and septic multiorgan failure for patients with secondary peritonitis. The gene discussed is CCL2; the disease is Sepsis.
