Glucocorticoid stimulation has been found to diminish thermogenic capacity with a decreased uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) protein level and an increased accumulation of lipids in BAT, which has thus been considered to mediate glucocorticoid-induced obesity (Poggioli et al., 2013; Scotney et al., 2017; Thuzar et al., 2018). The gene discussed is UCP1; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
