We found that circulating CD8+ level <200 cells/μl at follow-up correlated positively with the presence of autoimmunity (R = 0.313) and granulomatosis (R = 0.463) at follow-up, the persistence of chronic EBV viremia (R = 0.379) at follow-up, malignancy (R = 0.463) and, in particular, with lymphomas (R = 0.327) at follow-up, which in this series are EBV-related in 3 out of 5 subjects. The gene discussed is CD8A; the disease is lymphoma.
