Our study now indicates that IRE1α activation sculpted transcriptional programs in kidney-infiltrating neutrophils and monocytes that enable the simultaneous overexpression of major inflammatory factors, such IL-1β, IL-1α, IL-6, TNF-α, PGE2, CCL5, IP-10/CXCL10, and MCP-1/CCL2, which contribute to the renal immunopathology observed in systemic candidiasis (28, 34, 79). The gene discussed is ERN1; the disease is candidiasis.
