A study involving 2163 participants from the US population hypothesized that SFA may play a major role in modulating the effects of fat mass and obesity associated (FTO) polymorphisms that are associated with BMI/obesity, results indicated that high-SFA intake instead of total fat intake could be more associated in increasing the effects of the FTO risk allele on BMI [41]. This evidence concerns the gene FTO and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
