Complete blood count (CBC) parameters, such as lymphopenia and neutrophilia are often used to predict disease progression, and non-specific markers of inflammation, including procalcitonin (PCT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) have been described in COVID-19 as predictors of admission to adult intensive care unit (8). The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is lymphopenia.
