Translocator protein has been closely tied to neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and Parkinson’s Disease (PD) (Mcgeer et al., 1988; Zimmer et al., 2014; Edison et al., 2018; Zhou et al., 2021), due to the presence of dysfunctional mitochondria, and the increased inflammation as the innate response to degradation.
