Since the level of IGF2R receptors in the placentas was different in Ob women, as detected when using antibodies recognizing the amino acids surrounding Ala1675, localized in the extracellular region of the protein, and above the cleavage level, we suggest that the increased content in the placental IGF2R of Ob women may be due to a lower rate of cleavage, thus increasing the levels of active TGF-β and thus, favoring a chronic inflammation process characteristic of the obesity condition. The gene discussed is IGF2R; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
