In support of this assumption, reports on animal models of Parkinson’s disease [39] and autoimmune encephalomyelitis [45] argue that AQP4 is a modulator of neuroinflammation via regulating the release of inflammatory cytokines such as IL1b, IL6, TNFa and ATP from astrocytes which lead to activation of microglia. Here, AQP4 is linked to Parkinson disease.
