Leukocyte recruitment to tissue from the blood compartment is mediated by expression of chemokines and cell adhesion molecules which occurs during the active phase; this would fit with our results, where PBMCs from patients with asthma tended to be more responsive to LPS and CD3/CD28 stimulation and dexamethasone suppression at 16:00 h (during the active phase) [39].
