Spatiotemporal expression analysis of the membrane-bound CXCL16 by various cell types within nonlymphoid tissues during and after infection, as well as their potential interaction with CXCR6 expressing T cells will need to be investigated in order to elucidate how tissue-residency of T cells is enhanced through the CXCR6-CXCL16 signaling axis. The gene discussed is CXCR6; the disease is infection.
