The study also identified upregulation of a tumor metastasis suppressor gene, N-Myc downstream regulated gene 1, NDRG1, along with increased expression of the AP-1 network genes, suggesting that preoperative progesterone intervention may modulate the effect of surgical stress on breast cancer by altering the expression of several protein-coding genes, thereby improving patient survival [9]. The gene discussed is NDRG1; the disease is breast carcinoma.
