VDR and acute kidney injury: Studies demonstrated that VDR-knockout mice increase the glomerulosclerosis and tubulointerstitial fibrosis in the UUO model [32], deteriorate renal function and tubular injury in cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) [33] and contribute to severe albuminuria, worsen of tubular injuries, an increase of inflammation and to defective autophagy in the DKD [34].
