In PD animal models, specifically those models with the administration of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA), and 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP), elevated NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome activation results in worsened motor dysfunction and dopaminergic neuronal loss in the SNpc [16,17,18]. This evidence concerns the gene NLRP3 and Parkinson disease.
