A recent study showed that repeated oral administration of L. plantarum, a commensal probiotic and agonist of TLR-2 and NOD2, to C3H/HeJ mice mitigated acute leptospirosis and reduced renal lesions, although it did not prevent renal colonization against intraperitoneal infection with L. interrogans strain Fiocruz L1-130 [59]. This evidence concerns the gene TLR2 and leptospirosis.
