A recent systematic review of anti-VEGF nephrotoxicity in RCC patients [39], including 27 clinical trials, 4 meta-analyses and 17 retrospective studies, revealed that in phase III/IV clinical trials, high-grade proteinuria (nephrotic-range proteinuria or nephrotic syndrome) associated with axitinib appeared only in 8.2% of patients in total, whereas all-grade proteinuria appeared in 11.64% of patients treated with first-line axitinib and in 20.74% of patients treated with second-line axitinib. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is nephrotic syndrome.
