The lysosomal-autophagic pathway also plays an important role in neurodegenerative diseases [49,50,51,52], as we previously showed that Drosophila dNAGLU (a homolog of human NAGLU, a lysosomal enzyme) reduced Aβ42 deposition in AD Drosophila and human U251-APP cells by enhancing lysosomal function [53]. This evidence concerns the gene APP and Alzheimer disease.
