Curcumin increases enzymatic antioxidant activity by increasing the expression of methionine sulfoxide reductase (MSRA) and increasing the levels of the enzymes MSRA, SOD, CAT and GPx [18], and may act as an antioxidant against oxidative stress in rats with diabetes mellitus by increased SOD expression in cochlear fibroblasts [19]. This evidence concerns the gene SOD1 and diabetes mellitus.
