A recent study on 102 children with adenotonsillar hypertrophy documented that 71% were sensitized to more than one allergen in the serum and/or adenotonsillar tissue, and among children with specific IgE-negative serum, 36% had specific IgE-positive adenotonsillar tissues [14]; in addition, AR can be considered an independent risk factor for snoring and provides an increased probability for moderate or severe SDB [15]. This evidence concerns the gene IGHE and sleep apnea syndrome.
