Through cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, AA is converted to prostacyclin and thromboxane, and in severe preeclampsia, there is an upsurge in platelet thromboxane synthesis, with maternal immune cells hypersecreting interlekin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), which are proinflammatory cytokines [61]. Here, TNF is linked to preeclampsia.
