It was found that interleukin-6 serum levels appear to be a useful prognostic biomarker in patients with a diagnosis of COVID-19 pneumonia, and greater than 35 pg/mL of interleukin-6 are associated with an increased risk of mortality, mechanical ventilation requirements, and increased severity of SARS-CoV-2 induced pneumonia [90].
