To the best of our knowledge, there are no studies in the literature that have correlated the effects of epigenetic changes on single-nucleotide polymorphisms of genes encoding inflammatory molecules, such as IL-6 and TNF-alpha, and proangiogenic molecules, such as eNOS, VEGF, and HIF-1alpha, with endothelial dysfunction, noninvasively assessed by RHI; with serum levels of inflammatory molecules implicated in these pathways; or with new inflammatory adipokines, such as Gremlin-1, in a population of people with diabetes with and without lower limb ulcers. The gene discussed is NOS3; the disease is ulcer of lower limb.
