CD177 has been associated with severe COVID-19 both at the mRNA and protein level1,30,31, but in our data the same trajectory was evident in the proportion of circulating neutrophils by both clinical cytometry (Supplementary Fig. 8) and CIBERSORT (Fig. 5), suggesting that elevated CD177 may merely reflect the relative number of activated neutrophils represented in bulk whole blood RNA. The gene discussed is CD177; the disease is COVID-19.
