Further, using retrospective insurance claims data, we found that treatment with existing U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USFDA)-approved GLP-1R agonists, including exenatide, liraglutide, albiglutide, dulaglutide, semaglutide, and lixisenatide, was associated with a 44% risk reduction for a new diagnosis of glaucoma or glaucoma suspect in diabetic patients (hazard ratio 0.56, 95% CI: 0.36 to 0.89, p = 0.01; Sterling et al., 2021). This evidence concerns the gene GLP1R and glaucoma.
