It is therefore useful to assess patients’ gene mutation status for prognostic purposes, but also and more crucially to orient the choice of novel targeted treatments for advanced forms, such as the highly-selective RET inhibitors pralsetinib and selpercatinib, now approved for treating RET-mutated MTC (6), or crizotinib for use in the rare cases of ALK-rearranged MTC (7).
