X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is a rare neurodegenerative disease that results in the rapid inflammatory demyelination and axonal degeneration, and pathogenic mutations in ABCD1 (ALD) gene located on chromosome Xq28 has been identified as the etiology (7, 8). The gene discussed is ABCD1; the disease is X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy.
