Postmortem studies have reported reductions in the mRNA expression levels of AMPAR subunit GluA1 and GluA3, but not GluA2, in the hippocampus of patients with depression (Duric et al., 2013), suggesting that subtype-specific AMPAR decrease in the hippocampus is implicated in depression. This evidence concerns the gene GRIA2 and depressive symptom measurement.
