A recent study focusing on the translation of upstream open reading frames (uORF) of GGGGCC repeat expansion associated with C9 ALS/FTD found that DAP5 enhanced uORF-like translation of GGGGCC repeats but inhibited downstream cap-independent translation of GGGGCC expansions (van ‘t Spijker et al., 2022). This evidence concerns the gene EIF4G2 and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
