Our previous research studies have demonstrated that in breast cancer cells, metformin is capable of inducing ferroptosis through the inhibition of UFMylation of SLC7A11, a ubiquitin-like modification that has a significant effect on the development and progression of breast cancer, thus negatively regulating the stability of the SLC7A11 protein and ultimately inducing ferroptosis (Yang et al., 2021). This evidence concerns the gene SLC7A11 and breast carcinoma.
