It is well-known that Pt-based chemotherapeutic agents are associated with severe toxicity, including nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity, neurotoxicity, etc. Since Pt drugs were shown to activate p53, leading to cancer cell apoptosis, it was investigated whether p53 might be also involved in the apoptosis of normal cells, such as renal tubular cells [142].
