In the setting of ischemic stroke, several components of the NVU are believed to play a fundamental role in the transformation of reversible to irreversible tissue damage including the myelin-associated proteins CNP and MBP as well as the components of vascular basement membranes laminin and collagen IV (Ogata et al., 1989; Dewar and Dawson, 1997; Yuan et al., 2012; Mages et al., 2021). This evidence concerns the gene CNP and ischemic stroke.
