CD8A and melanoma: Inhibiting cholesterol esterification in T cells, either through genetic ablation or pharmacological inhibition of acetyl-coenzyme A acetyltransferases (ACAT1), a key cholesterol esterification enzyme, leads to increased levels of plasma membrane cholesterol levels, leading to potentiated effector function and enhanced proliferation of CD8+ T cells in melanoma and Lewis lung carcinoma models (85).
