Interestingly, inhibition of the mevalonate pathway may in turn affect the acquired ability of mutant p53 in tumorigenesis, as blocking the mevalonate pathway can lead to the degradation of mutant p53 protein by inducing CHIP-mediated nuclear export and ubiquitination of mutant p53, resulting in the downregulation of mutant p53 protein levels in cancer cells[87].
