Interestingly, two of these SNPs, rs3772479 and rs2270569, are located in the FHIT and KIF9 genes, respectively, which have been reported to play an important role in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) (Crohn’s disease being a type of IBD) (Skopelitou et al., 2003; Xu & Qiao, 2006; Wierzbicki et al., 2009; Wang et al., 2018). Here, KIF9 is linked to Crohn disease.
