Abdelsattar et al. used MS and GC-MS to quantify the blood stains and urine samples of diabetic nephropathy patients and found that C12, C5:1 and C5 had stronger predictive abilities of albumin/creatinine values than HbA1c, suggesting that they could be used as potential biomarkers for the diagnosis of diabetic nephropathy at the early stage [22].
