We hypothesised that patients would show higher expression of H3R compared to healthy controls in DLPFC (because of the post-mortem data in schizophrenia and its role in cognitive function) and striatum (given evidence implicating striatal signalling in the pathophysiology of psychotic symptoms, and the role of H3R in modulating striatal signalling) (Alfaro-Rodriguez et al., 2013; McCutcheon et al., 2019; Ryu et al., 1994, 1996). The gene discussed is HRH3; the disease is schizophrenia.
