BCL2 and Mental deterioration: Targeting Bcl-xl, a member of the antiapoptotic Bcl-2 family, has been reported to reduce the viability of senescent cells but not that of nonsenescent cells.24 ABT-263 (navitoclax), which targets several Bcl-2 family proteins, including Bcl-xl, Bcl-2, and Bcl-w, is senolytic in human endothelial cells and IMR90 cells.25 For treating neurodegenerative diseases, ABT-263 can eliminate senescent glial cells to prevent tau-dependent pathologies and cognitive decline.4 We used ABT-263 to target senescent cells and identified a therapeutic effect against ischemic stroke-induced brain injury.
