Studies have reported that oral Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Lactobacillus reuteni delay the progression of multiple sclerosis by increasing the number of forkhead box P3 (Foxp3)+ and IL-10+ Treg cells and reducing pro-inflammatory Th1/Th17 polarization in the peripheral immune system and inflammatory sites (Kwon et al., 2013). The gene discussed is FOXP3; the disease is multiple sclerosis.
