Apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1 (ASK1) is a member of the superfamily of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) kinase kinases (MAP3K5) that selectively activate the c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and p38 pathways via phosphorylation of MAPK kinase 3/6 (MEK3/6) and MEK4/7 in response to a variety of stimuli, including oxidative stress, growth factors, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, infection, and calcium influx [5]. Here, MAP3K5 is linked to infection.
