A large international registry of IBD patients and COVID-19 found an increased risk of severe COVID-19 outcomes for patients on thiopurine monotherapy (adjusted OR (aOR) 4.08, 95% CI 1.73–9.61) and patients on combination therapy with TNF antagonist and thiopurine (aOR 4.01, 95% CI 1.65–9.78) [86].In published data from the SECURE-IBD registry, which surveils COVID-19 incidence and outcomes in IBD patients, patients on thiopurines had a hospitalization rate of 20% and a death rate of 2%. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is inflammatory bowel disease.
